Distance Defination

The total length of a path travelled by an object from one place to another place is called distance.

In case of distance the direction of motion is continuously changing. Distance is measured in metres. It is a scalar quantity.

It is distance between two points in a particular direction which is define as:

The shortest and straight line distance between two points is called displacement.

Displacement is a vector quantity and is always directed from the initial point to the end point. It is also measured in metres.

Walking through stairs is the distance, moving through an elevator is the displacement.

Moving from A to B and from B to C is the distance, while walking direcly from A to C is the displacement.
