Density of an Irregular Object

Density of an Irregular Object

Apparatus

Some irregular solids, 0-500 ml measuring cylinder, top-pan balance is required to perform this experiment.

Apparatus

Procedure

The volume of a solid of an irregular object can be calculated by the following procedure.

  1. Measure the volume V1 of a certain amount of a liquid by measuring cylinder.
  2. Tie the solid object by a fine thread and immerse it gently into the liquid and measure volume V2 of liquid plus the solid object.
  3. Use the following formula to measure the volumes "V" of the solid.
    Volume of solid, (V) = V2 - V1
  4. Measure the mass "m" of the solid object using a top-pan balance.
  5. Calculate the density of the solid by using the formula of density.
